Mike Moore spent sixteen years as Attorney General of Mississippi, where in 1994 he became the first attorney general in the country to sue the tobacco industry, an action widely considered unwinnable at the time.

That case grew into litigation joined by more than forty states and ended in the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement, the largest civil settlement in American history. Mike insisted the agreement do more than move money: it required the industry to dismantle its youth marketing and funded a national public education effort, which became the American Legacy Foundation and the truth campaign. He later helped lead the multistate opioid litigation.

Mike serves as chairman of the board of Truth Initiative and sits on the board of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. He has joined the board of Attention Initiative, where he is advising on how the public education mechanism built for tobacco could be built again for addictive technology.
